SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -

Imagine you're working nights, so you sleep during the day -and while you're at home asleep you hear a loud noise and find an intruder in your living room!

That's what happened to one man on Tuesday. Sheffield Police said when the homeowner saw the man in his living room he immediately recognized him from high school.

The two exchanged words and the homeowner told the man he was going to grab his shoes and then wanted to look at the damage done to his front door.

He grabbed his shoes and also his pistol, and held the man at gunpoint until police arrived.

Chief Greg Ray said the homeowner did what any responsible gun owner should do, and he commends him for not letting the situation get out of control.

"It's certainly scary because this was 2:45 in the afternoon, it's a pretty densely populated part of town, cars everywhere and people everywhere and somebody has the audacity to actually kick in a door and go into someone's house," Ray said. "But this homeowner certainly did what he should have done. He practiced responsible gun ownership."

Justin O'neal Hall is charged with second-degree burglary. Police believe he may be connected to other recent home break-ins in the area.
