Auburn prepares for August 26 municipal election

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

As Election Day draws closer for Auburn, the city and county want to make sure you are prepared to head to the polls.

The final of a series of three candidate forums was held Thursday, August 14.

Hosted by the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, candidates from Wards 3, 5 and 6 were given the chance to answer questions that matter most to residents.

Growth was a hot topic, especially relation to business recruitment and its impact on the schools system.

"Industries will furnish jobs, but at the same time that growth will put a strain on our schools systems and we have to plan for it, we have to plan for growth," explains Ward 3 candidate, Wendell McLain.

"We need to ask the question, how will this impact Auburn, how will this impact us as citizens and going forward with that decision what does it mean for us today and 20 years from now," says Ward 3 candidate, Beth Witten.

Friday will mark your last chance to register to vote.

You can get voter registrations forms at Auburn City hall or the County Board of Registrars office at the Lee County Courthouse.

After the 2010 census, voting wards were redrawn affecting nearly 8,000 residents.

If you are not sure where to cast your vote, the City of Auburn has an interactive map on their website, www.auburnalabama.org, to look up your voting ward and location.

It's an easy way to ensure you practice your most basic right as a citizen.

Auburn residents will vote new members in on August 26. Polling hours will be from 7 AM to 7 PM.

Anyone unable to make it to the polls can send in an absentee ballot. The absentee ballot application deadline is August 21, and the absentee ballot deadline is 5 PM on August  25.
