MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

After battling wildfires out west for two weeks, officials say a group of Alabama Firefighters are back home. The crew helped battle one of the largest wildfires in Washington State's history.

The eight crew members were part of a 20-man wildfire suppression hand crew deployed to the Carlton Complex in Washington State by request from the Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The men returning in this crew include Joey Donnelly of Escambia County, Deal Driggers of Geneva County, Rickey Fields of Baldwin County, Ashley Haden of Russell County, Keith Niedermeier of Cherokee County, Jeffrey Owens of Butler County, Lester Williams of Geneva County and Shane Woodham of Cherokee County.

Seven other firefighters had already returned home after assisting with the effort. Those men include Derrick Heckman of St. Claire County, Moto Williams of Chambers County. Also five additional men were sent to fight wildfires in Oregon. Those men include Ethan Barrett of Hale County, Jason Berry of Walker County, Michael King of Crenshaw County, Joel Barlett of Marion County and Hank McKinley of Tuscaloosa County.

Each of these firefighters who volunteered to go fight these fires must meet the highest quality standards of fire training and physical fitness.
