HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Two Huntsville women were arrested Thursday for manufacturing meth in a trailer. Jennifer Melton and Ashley Hopper are also being charged for chemical endangerment since two children were present at the time. Lt. Salomonsky with the Madison County Sheriff Department said the children were taken to the hospital to be “decontaminated”. The Department of Human Resources was notified and will be in charge of placing the children in a safer home.
DHR says an average of 32 cases involving meth production and children are reported to them each month. Once a child is found to be living in a house where meth is being produced DHR immediately takes the child away and places them with another family member or with a foster family.
Salomonsky described the scene as a “normal meth lab production location.” Neighbors told WAFF 48 that there had been problems for months. Neighbors reported groups of people constantly going in and out of the trailer and the children playing in the streets without any kind of adult supervision.
