BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police expect to arrest a suspect in connection to the shooting of a 5-year-old girl.

The shooting happened at Kingston Projects in the 900 block of 44th Place North late Friday night.

Police say the girl was an innocent bystander when a gun was fired during an altercation nearby.

Investigators say she was insider her apartment with her mother and mother's boyfriend when the shooting happened. Allegedly, two men forced their way into the home, got into a fight with the mother and her boyfriend.

Authorities say she was taken to Children's of Alabama and doctors expect her to recover from four gunshot wounds.
