BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Five Ramsay High football players were hospitalized after being in a wreck that left their vehicle upside down on the side of the road.

The wreck happened on Montclair Road near Tapestry Park apartments at 5:00 Friday evening.

Birmingham Police Lt. Scott Thurmond says the team was headed to a scrimmage at Lawson Field when the wreck happened.

He says some of the team rode in a school bus but the five injured players carpooled. He said the car went off the road due to the rollover.

Thurmond says all five of the players were hospitalized as a precautionary measure. Four of them were released and one is expected to be released today.

Head coach Rueben Nelson says the players are OK, there were no broken bones and should return to school on Monday.
