COLUMBUS, MS (WSFA) -

The case against the suspect in the August shooting death of Union Springs Police Chief Danny Jackson's daughter will be presented to a grand jury in February 2015. Tarkesha Carter, 25, is accused of gunning down Brittany Foster, 27, in the Jackson Square Shopping Center in Columbus, Mississippi.

Carter remains in the Lowndes County (MS) jail on a $600,000 bond.

The mere fact a police chief's daughter was murdered stunned Columbus native and residential contractor Tom Hatcher.

"I was shocked to hear it was the police chief's daughter, but I guess their family is like any family and has problems and issues just like everybody else," said Hatcher.

Laura Armour was not quite so surprised.

"I just feel like Columbus has either changed a lot, or the crime is publicized more," said Armour.

Homicide investigators with the Columbus Police Department say Carter went to Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant and confronted Foster, who worked at the restaurant as a waitress.

Carter allegedly shot Foster twice, once in the stomach and the head. Police say Carter then shot at another woman running out of the restaurant, but she was not injured. Foster later died at a Columbus hospital.

Detectives declined to talk about a motive, but WSFA 12 News confirmed that Carter knew both women. This was not a random act of violence.

Meantime, Danny Jackson told WSFA 12 News that his daughter was a ‘daddy's girl but mostly a 'grandmother's girl'. Foster loved both of her grandmothers.

Foster was a 9-year veteran with the Air Force Reserves and a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Foster also worked for Weyerhaeuser which is a paper mill near Columbus. Foster would have turned 28-years old on August 28.
