LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said a citizen complaint about an inmate's prescription medication resulted in the arrest of a woman on drug charges.

April Rena Ritchie was arrested after agents received a complaint about someone going into a Moulton-area pharmacy to refill an inmate's prescription. Sheriff Mitchell said investigators learned Ritchie was filling the prescriptions.

Agents interviewed the inmate, who told them Ritchie had not been given permission to refill the prescription.

The sheriff said Ritchie told investigators she had obtained the medication to be used for a family member who had their medication stolen earlier in the month.

Ritchie was charged with distribution due to her admission of giving the controlled substance to another person, and a felony possession charge for not having a valid prescription.

She was released from jail on a $2,500 bond.
