SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA (KCAL/KCBS/CNN) – California authorities have arrested a man in connection with the death of a U.S. Marine's missing wife.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Christopher Lee was arrested on Sunday. Authorities believe he was having an affair with Erin Corwin. They say Corwin was three months pregnant when she was reported missing in June.
"On Saturday, Aug. 16, the search concluded with the discovery of Erin Corwin's body in a 140 foot mine shaft," San Bernardino Sheriff John McMahon said.
Her husband says she had gone to visit Joshua Tree National Park.
"The search area covered approximately 300 square miles in the Mojave Desert, including Joshua Tree National Park, 29 Palms Amboy, 29 palms Marine Corps base and areas covered by the bureau of land management,"
An autopsy conducted on Corwin's body ruled that her death was a homicide.
Authorities say charges against Lee may be decided within 48 hours, and they also say more arrests may be possible.
