FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

The kickoff to high school football is here, and this season is bringing a brand new program to the field in the Shoals.

Students and Staff gathered to celebrate their first ever football game Thursday at Mars Hills School in Florence.

The football program is all new to the school, which has had success in other sports programs throughout the years.

Students showed their Panther pride as the cheerleaders and band members helped spread the hype ahead of Thursday night's game, in which Mars Hill will host the Sheffield Bulldogs.

“One of the things with football that excites me is it can include a whole lot of people," said Head Coach Jared Mills. "For our school to be able to get a band involved now, and cheerleading involved... You’ve got parents that have been working day and night just trying to get ready. It’s really a great opportunity for our school to pull together for something that’s special and is hopefully going to benefit for a long time."
