CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Bringing baseball back into the community.

That is what Reds officials hope will come of the new P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy, a 33,000 square-foot indoor training facility for kids ages 5 to 18.

The academy, located in Roselawn, opened Friday to offer free, year-round baseball and softball instruction, as well as educational and vocational training.

"I can't express how proud I am today. I don't have the words to say that because, guess what, this one is in my town," said former Cincinnati Reds Joe Morgan at Friday's ribbon-cutting. The road the leads into the academy, which is off Seymour Avenue, is named after Morgan.

The MLB Urban Youth Academy is a state-of-the-art, $7 million complex paid for with money from P&G, MLB and gifts from Reds owners. It was called a ‘world class training facility' by Charlie Frank with the Reds community fund and is touted as the best of all urban youth academies.

"It's not surprising this will be the shining star of all the MLB urban projects in the country. It's got what I call major wow factor and it really is an amazing facility," said Kim Nuxhall, son of Cincinnati Reds legend Joe Nuxhall.

There are three other MLB Urban Youth Academy's in operation around the U.S., in Florida, California and Louisiana. In addition to baseball, The Academy will also provide tutoring and vocational training for kids and parents.
