MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

After starting in Kentucky earlier in the month of August, post about "Purge" events have quickly spread across the country.

It all started in Louisville, when a picture popped up on social media stating that there would be a "Purge" day on August 15. Police started to investigate the picture and determined it was just a hoax, but the hoax quickly spread to other parts of the country.

Recently pictures have popped up for "Purge" events in Troy, Brundidge, Columbus, GA., Phenix City and also Montgomery.

The posted date for the event in Montgomery is on August 30 from 12 a.m. to 7 a.m.

The Montgomery Police Department say they have been made aware of the picture that is circulating social media, and are taking the matter very seriously.

They also state that there are no credible threats of this event happening and is a hoax just like the one in Kentucky.

Police will continue to monitor the situation in its commitment to provide a safe environment for Montgomery.

"The Purge" and its sequel "The Purge: Anarchy" are movies in which all crime is legal once a year for 12 hours.
