Houston Co. Sheriff Officer receives medal from FBI

HOUSTON CO., AL (WSFA) -

A member of the Houston County Sheriff's Department received top FBI honors on Monday for his part in midland city bunker standoff.

Houston County Sheriff's Captain Bill Rafferty received the FBI Medal for Meritorious Achievement. The award is the highest medal awarded to a non FBI agent.

Rafferty was the primary negotiator who talked to Jimmy Lee Dykes from day one, to the end.

Rafferty has been with the Houston County Sheriff's Department since 2001.
