AU Tigers lead announcer previews upcoming football season

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

The Auburn Tigers take on the Arkansas Razorbacks inside Jordan Hare Stadium on Saturday.

News Leader 9's Elizabeth White spoke with Sports Illustrated Commentator of the Year and Auburn lead announcer Rod Bramblett on what we can expect from the Tigers.

"I think everybody is just excited to see what is going to happen next," Bramblett said.

Bramblet says the team is not letting last year's magical season go to their head. They've used the 13 second last play loss to FSU as motivation.

"They came so close to winning a national championship and that has been what the focus is about how to get better to not come up 13 seconds short again," Bramblett said.

Nick Marshall, who was cited for marijuana and tinted windows during a police stop, will not start Saturday.

"What about Nick Marshall, when will he go in?" asked WTVM's Elizabeth White.

"That's a great question, I think only Gus Malzahn and maybe Nick Marshall known the answer to that question," Bramblett replied.

Bramblett believes Marshall will be a Heisman candidate, as he gets even more comfortable with the fast pace offense, that's now in overdrive.

"It's a faster pace just because it's year two in the system, Nick Marshall year two in the system."

Fan favorite Tre Mason will be missed as running back, but there's a lot of talent ready to emerge in Auburn's running game.

"I think it will be running back by committee and I think Gus Malzahn is good with that, there are two seniors that will get the most carries initially."

As for Auburn's defense, Bramblett expects Auburn fans will be more than pleased...

"Auburn's defense needs to be a little better for Auburn to be scary good, because of the offense, but I think the defense is going to be a lot better again, because of more time in the system."

"That's the key, because we know the defense had some holes last year and we still went to a national championship. I think if the defense is just a little bit better, Auburn is going to have another special year."

Bramblett says Auburn has a tough season ahead of them. The Tigers are the only top 25 teams, playing seven teams who were ranked in the pre-season polls.

Plus, the Tigers have a target on their back, especially with Georgia and Alabama.
