MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (WAFF) -

Many of you will light up the grill and spend time with family as we prepare to celebrate the unofficial end of summer.

As you make your weekend preparations, volunteers hope you'll find time to help honor the families of our brave service men and women through an event known as Patriot Golf Day.

Patriot Golf Day is held at golf courses across the country on Labor Day weekend and it really focuses on giving back to families whose loved ones were either killed or disabled in service.

Cypress Lakes Golf Course is kicking it up a notch with the help of Army Veteran LTC Michael Snyder.

With the support of the community and other volunteers, Patriot Golf Day will include a list of golf and non-golf activities all centered around the Folds of Honor Foundation.

LTC Michael Snyder, UNA ROTC Cadets, and a host of other volunteers organizers hope to raise even more money to send off to support our troops and their families.

"If we can take one burden and maybe that's the burden of how are we going to pay for college or how are we going to be able to afford the cost of tuition which is going up and up that's what folds of honor does it provides scholarships to those families who have been affected and made great sacrifices for our freedom." , says LTC Snyder.

Whether you consider yourself a seasoned golfer or a beginner, organizers say there will be something for everyone.

PGA Professional and General Manager of Cypress Lakes, Scott Arndt said, "we've always just taken up kind of a goodwill donation and sent the money to the Folds of Honor Foundation." Arndt also stated, "it's a great opportunity to support the armed forces and the people that support us each and every day to keep us safe at home and abroad."

"We should show appreciation as frequently as possible especially these recent families that are without a husband, that are without a father, lost their son, it impacted families and that is enduring it never goes away.", said LTC Snyder.
