BUTLER COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

A Butler County man was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday for manufacturing explosives in his Hamilton garage.

Jeremy Smith, 25, was arrested in March 2013 after he sold undercover agents bottle bombs prepped for detonation, according to authorities.

Smith had explosive paraphernalia and partially completed bombs in his Ross Avenue garage. The bombs were loaded with nails, screws and gunpowder, according to Butler Co. Sheriff Richard K. Jones.

"Mr. Smith obviously didn't care who he was selling to and it was relatively easy buying them from him. We gave him a little money and he handed us the explosives," said Sergeant Mike Hackney with Butler County's undercover drug unit. The unit's interest in Smith initially began as a narcotics investigation.

Richard Barrett, 41, was Smith's neighbor and allegedly assisted in making the bombs, according to police. Barrett has been charged and there is a warrant out for his arrest.

Smith was charged with manufacturing and unlawful possession of a dangerous ordinance. He pleaded Monday and was handed the six year sentence.

Anyone with information on Richard Barrett's whereabouts is asked to call Butler County at 513-785-1300.
