HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

HudsonAlpha in Huntsville hosted the Ultimate Ice Bucket Challenge Wednesday afternoon.

At least 100 people, including employees, associates and people from the community took part in the event.

Each had an ice-cold bucket of water dumped on them. The purpose was to help educate and raise awareness about ALS.

"Here at HudsonAlpha we're currently finishing up a project where we are looking at thousands of the genomes in ALS patients and comparing it to people who don't have ALS," said Post-doctoral Fellow Dr. Brittany Lasseigne. "The strength in that is it really gives us a lot of power to try and understand why people are getting this disease."

The ALS Association has received $94-million in donations since July 29.

Officials say donations are continuing to come in due to the Ice Bucket Challenge.
