BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

People gathered at Miles College on Wednesday to remember a well known figure in the Birmingham area.

Dr. Bernard Williams passed away on August 22.

He was a choir director at Miles College and had been a faculty member there for 16 years. He also served as the Senior Pastor at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Pratt City.

People at this memorial service say his legacy won't be forgotten.

"His legacy will be to never give up, his legacy will be to build because he built the choir from 30 to nearly 100 choir members. So his legacy will be one of excellence, one of ministry and one of excellence," said Dr. George T. French, President of Miles College.

Miles College has counselors available for students on campus.

Dr. Williams' memorial service will be this coming Saturday at 11am at Bethel Baptist Church in Pratt City.
