BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night for a young man shot and killed outside a Birmingham gas station.

Family and friends of 20-year-old Cornigel Murray gathered across the street from the Kangaroo Express on Robert Jemison Road. That's where he was shot Saturday night.

His mother says she wants people to know that her son had a lot of love in his life.

"My son did not lie down alone. he was loved and had a village behind him," his mother said.

Police say the suspect in the shooting is William Oliver. He's charged with manslaughter.

Police say Oliver and Murray were involved in a fight before the shooting.
