An Algiers pastor who opened fire on two burglary suspects, hitting one in the head, has been booked with aggravated battery.

The Rev. William Littleton, 62, turned himself in to police at the Fourth District station Thursday afternoon.

Littleton is accused of firing at the men who were fleeing after allegedly stealing copper from Littleton's church Wednesday just after 5 p.m. in the 1200 block of Vallette Street.

A 50-year-old suspect was struck in the head. He was taken to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. The other suspect, 34-year-old Joseph Cross, was booked with theft of copper. He was not injured in the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing and police will present their findings to the District Attorney's Office for review.
