LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The Texas Tech Football program enters Year Two under Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury and starting Quarterback Davis Webb this Saturday.

The team has repeatedly pointed to the progress fans should see from Year One to Year Two in Kingsbury's offense. Webb has a full year of Texas Tech's offensive scheme under his belt and the coaches are giving him more responsibility on the field.

"It's night and day," Kingsbury said. "Davis will wave me off on play calls now if he sees stuff. So they are taking control as a group and that's when it gets really fun."

Webb had an eventful offseason participating in Quarterback camps, working with Kingsbury in his off-time and bulking up to help with stature and durability.

While working on the nuances of the playbook in the offseason and becoming more comfortable with his head coach, Webb has been given the freedom to improvise with play calls without the coach's consent - something not many college Quarterbacks have.

"Just being more comfortable with this system in Year Two, watching more film and understanding checks has helped. Getting with Coach Kingsbury and George Whitfield and knowing that I have full reign of this offense. If Coach Kingsbury gets us in a play and maybe another play might be a little better, I have the freedom to do that as long as it works out."

Having the blessing of your coach doesn't always mean your teammates have faith you will make the right decision. That's not the case in the Red Raider offense.

Starting Running Back DeAndre Washington has seen Webb put in the hard work and has no doubt he puts them in the best position to be successful every down.

"There's times out there when we are at practice where he is just doing his Peyton Manning thing," Washington said, "He's just out there checking and audible-ing to what he sees. He's very smart and very football-savvy. We trust in him and we are going to ride with him to the end. Look for him to have a big year. A big year!"

With as many times as Tech throws the football it would be negligent to think that Webb won't make mistakes, but if he can manage the offense and limit the turnovers, Texas Tech is headed for a successful 2014 campaign.
