Hattiesburg, Laurel mayors smack talk before "Little Brown Jug" game

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree and Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee have a verbal throw-down about the upcoming Hattiesburg Tigers v. Laurel Tornadoes game this Friday.

DuPree: "Well, I think it means more to Laurel than Hattiesburg to be honest with you. To beat Hattiesburg is a feather in Laurel's cap."

Magee: "Mayor DuPree likes to say things like that because he knows the truth and the truth is that there's a tornado coming back to Hattiesburg and that tornado will be brining a Jug back to Laurel with it when they come."

DuPree: "We have a lot of sympathy for people that we play. Mayor Magee's first year was last year. We surely didn't want him to come in on a losing season so we kind of took it a little easy on them, but you know he's a veteran now."

Magee: "Now we understand that Brett Favre may be available tomorrow night, and if they could get Brett Favre, maybe the score won't be as wide as it would have been if they don't get Brett."

DuPree: "Unlike Laurel, we don't depend on one person or one football player to win a game. This is a team sport and we are a team and that's why we're going to win."

Magee: "If Brett can go out and help them just a little bit, the score may not be 32-0, it may just be 32-6 or 7."

DuPree: "My prediction is always the same. 21-7."

The two mayors battle back and forth while the cities are rallying for the chance to bring home the "Little Brown Jug."

The game kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday at Hattiesburg High School.
