WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) -

An officer with the Wetumpka Police Department will be suspended for two days without pay following an internal investigation that shows he reportedly harassed a student at the request of her father on August 7th.

The departmental report from acting Chief Lt. Robert Sliwowski to Mayor Jerry Willis, dated August 14th, shows officer David Fletcher violated department and city personnel policies when he went and questioned a student at Wetumpka High School about her current address.

Following the officer/student conversation, Officer Fletcher then notified school administrators that the girl was living outside of the Wetumpka School zone. The school promptly notified the girl's mother of the violation and informed her the child must be unenrolled.

The child's mother filed an official complaint on August 8th against Fletcher, saying she believes he pulled the girl from class and "questioned her heavily" at the request of her estranged husband, with whom she is in a "heated divorce case".

The mother's complaint says she believes the officer's actions at the request of her husband were, "a ploy to have her removed from school in order to help him gain custody..." The complaint goes on to say Officer Fletcher's actions, "caused tremendous embarrassment to my minor child and I intend to take further action." What further action she intended is not clear.

Following its investigation the WPD determined Fletcher's conduct was 'unbecoming an officer' and his actions were found to be 'excessive, unwarranted, or unjustified'.

WSFA 12 News obtained a copy of the report through a Freedom of Information Act request. Attempts to gain comments from both parties have been unsuccessful

Fletcher's suspension is scheduled for September 10th and 11th.
