Coroner identifies man found stabbed in burning home

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A body with stab wounds found inside a burning home in the Hooper City neighborhood on Friday afternoon has been identified.

The Jefferson County coroner's office identifies the victim as 50-year-old Donald Billups, Jr., of Birmingham.

Birmingham police are calling Billups' death a homicide.

Authorities with Birmingham Fire and Rescue were called to a fire at an abandoned house in the 3000 block of 1st Place West in Hooper City around 1:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

After the fire was out, officials found Billups lying on the floor of the home suffering what they say were multiple stab wounds.

So far there have not been any arrests in the case.
