SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -

Sheffield police arrested a man for robbery and for the murder of his own father.

George Morris III is charged with stabbing and killing his own father. The police were called at about 10 a.m. Monday morning, and they found 63-year-old George Morris Jr. stabbed to death inside his home on the 1700 block of 9th Avenue. The home had been set on fire. Police said Morris had multiple stab wounds.

Morris' son, George Morris III, is charged with murder and robbery 1st and is being held on a $225,000 bond.

The robbery charge stems from an incident that happened after the accused murder. Police said Morris III took a car at knifepoint from a woman who had driven up to the home to check on his father.

Investigators said Morris drove off in the woman's car, but he was found a short time later and taken into custody.

A family friend who grew up with the victim and the suspect said they don't want to believe the son killed his father.

"He loved his kids," said Nekedria Decatur. "His kids loved him. As a family, we don't believe it. We're gonna stand on the Word of God that it did not happen. But revenge is the Lord."

Sheffield Police Chief Greg Ray said it was important to take their time on this case before jumping the gun on any charges.

"On any case we want to do it right, but especially on a homicide case," Chief Ray said. "This is family-on-family so that's tougher. We had a lot of forensic evidence, we had more than one crime scene... we had a lot of processing that had to be done, a lot of statements taken."

A motive has not yet been determined. Morris III is being held on more than $200,000 bond in Colbert County.
