BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police have charged a suspect with the murder of an elderly woman who was stabbed to death at her Avondale home.

Jeffery Justice, 36, has been charged with capital murder of 71-year-old Linda Allbritton. Her body was inside her home on 3rd Avnue South on Sunday evening.

Allbritton's car was also missing from her home, but was found nearby around 2:30 a.m. on Monday morning.

Police Chief A.C. Roper announced Justice's arrest in a press conference about Birmingham's new fire chief on Wednesday morning. Roper said they are still looking for a second suspect in the case.

Police say a witness was able to identify Justice as the suspect seen driving Allbritton's car. When Justice was arrested, he had Allbritton's car keys in his possession.

Detectives also learned that Justice had previously been in contact with Allbritton, and the police chief said they knew each other, but didn't elaborate how.

Justice is being held on no bond in the Jefferson County Jail.
