Phenix City council budget approved, agreement reached for new cable services

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

The Phenix City council approved a budget for the new fiscal year and this year they have more money to spend.

The city has an extra $1.2 million in its $35.5 million budget compared to last year, which they say comes from taxes, court fines, and parks and recreation fees.

City employees could also see pay raises over the next year.

Council members also approved an agreement with BellSouth Telecommunications and AT&T Alabama to provide cable services. This means Phenix City residents will have the option to get AT&T U-verse.

"This is the 146th agreement of this kind that we've entered into in the state of Alabama," said AT&T Alabama regional director Ty Fondren." We just opened the Columbus, Georgia market area a few weeks ago and we're glad to add Phenix City on to that."

The AT&T agreement also brought around eight new jobs to the Phenix City area.
