MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

It has been a favorite location in Cloverdale for decades, but on Wednesday the Chophouse closed its doors for good.

Ben Skelly, the owner of the restaurant, announced the decision online and in emails to customers.

Skelly said that many factors led to the closing of the restaurant, but stated that the business was the most rewarding venture of his life.

The Chophouse opened in 1984 as a wine shop, then gradually added lunch then dinner.

One of the most famous customers that the Chophouse saw was the late John F. Kennedy, Jr.

He ate dinner there in 1995 after doing interviews for his political magazine.
