Many parents left out at Jasper County School Board meeting

JASPER CO., SC (WTOC) -

The Jasper County School Board discussed multiple issues on Monday evening, including a volunteer who was dismissed just days after he gave the school board a presentation on the decline of student performance.

The superintendent declined to comment on why the volunteer was let go.

Meanwhile, many people were denied entrance. Officials said the room could only hold 55 people in regulation with fire codes, leaving dozens of parents who wanted to attend the public meeting outside.

"We were five minutes early, but we were denied access along with about 50 other people," said parent Richard Arzillo. "I suggest that next meeting we have it where we can get all of our citizens in, because that's our goal for all of our citizens to be in these meetings, not for half of the members and a few citizens."

The board said they'll discuss meeting in venues that will accommodate more people in a future meeting.
