MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Patti LaBelle will come to Alabama State University for a concert during the commemoration and celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March next year.

ASU President Gwendolyn Boyd, Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange and County Commission Chariman Elton Dean announced the event Tuesday. ASU, the city and county commission will sponsor the event.

The concert is scheduled for March 7 at the ASU Dunn-Olivre Acadome. The public is invited to come together to honor the anniversary of the historic 1965 March.

Details on tickets haven't been released.

The university is also inviting any of the living participants in the march to be guests of honor. These guests must be able to verify they were active participants in the march from March 7, 1965 to March 25, 1965.

If you or someone you know may be one of these "unsung heroes," register with names and contact information with ASU's National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture. Beginning next week, you may call 334-229-4824 with contact information or email hrobinson@alasu.edu.
