Pike Road holds weekend ceremony to honor veterans

The Town of Pike Road honored America's heroes during its annual Veterans Appreciation Ceremony, Sunday at the Pike Road Veterans Memorial Park.

"America's heroes—those who have fought and continue to sacrifice for our freedoms—are very dear to the people of this town, and we take seriously this opportunity to honor them each November," said Mayor Gordon Stone.

The event, in its third year, featured patriotic music by the Capitol Sounds and a debut performance by the "Pike Road Singers."

A United States Marine Corp Honor Guard presented the colors, and an antique Army L19 flyover was featured.

Two of Pike Road's own veterans, General Ed Crowell and Colonel Barry Jones, shared their testimonies before the event's main highlight, a "Walk of Honor" during which time veterans took part in a short walk for recognition.

Before the event was over, a dedication of engraved bricks was done on the pathway leading to the town's Veterans Memorial.
