ATMORE, AL (WSFA) - An Alabama inmate who sat on death row for 18 years has died of apparent natural causes, the Alabama Department of Corrections says.
David Eugene Davis was convicted in 1996 of the capital murders of Kenneth Douglas and John Fikes. He was sentenced to death on July 7, 1997.
Davis, 56, died on March 15 at Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore. He'd been moved to the facility's infirmary, according to DOC officials, and died of apparent natural causes around 3 a.m. His body was turned over to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
Davis' profile has been removed from the Alabama Department of Correction's death row inmate registry. A photo of him was not immediately available.
