MONTGOMERY, Ala.(AP) Republicans in the Alabama Legislature say Democrats are trying to steal key items in their agenda, particularly a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriages.
House Minority Leader Representative Mike Hubbard of Auburn says Republicans will not allow Democrats to steal the GOP's conservative ideals.
Democrat House Majority Leader Ken Guin of Carbon Hill says some Republicans think they alone have -quote- "a hot line to heaven."
Hubbard and other Republican leaders complained that the Democrats listed the gay marriage ban as their priority after Republicans had included the proposed amendment on the GOP agenda for the session.
Senate Minority Leader Jabo Waggoner, R-Vestavia Hills, said Democratic leaders were responsible for a same-sex marriage ban amendment dying in the House last session.
A version of the marriage amendment sponsored by a Democrat, Representative Yusuf Salaam of Selma, will be the first item considered tomorrow by the House Constitution and Elections committee.
