AMERICUS, Ga.(AP) Supporters of the founder and former president of Habitat for Humanity have started an online petition to protest his firing.
Many also gathered over the weekend in support of Millard Fuller and his wife, Linda. Both were dismissed from the Christian home-building charity last week after a dispute over allegations that Fuller behaved inappropriately with a female staffer during a 2003 business trip.
Fuller has denied those charges.
More than 100 people rallied in Americus, Georgia, on Saturday to talk about the Fullers' impact on their lives and gather signatures for their reinstatement. Around the country, volunteers held brief work stoppages to pray for the couple.
Meanwhile, Millard and Linda Fuller met Saturday with former President Jimmy Carter -- a longtime Habitat supporter and friend of the Fullers -- to discuss how the couple can continue to be involved with the charity.
