WASHINGTON(AP)_ Third District Republican Congressman Mike Rogers has been appointed to the House Homeland Security Committee.
The panel oversees the nation's third largest cabinet agency and is responsible for issues dealing with emergency response to terrorist attacks, first responder funding, immigration, border security and cyber security.
Rogers already sits on two other committees -- Armed Services and Agriculture. The appointment was announced today by House Speaker Dennis Hastert. Rogers said the assignment will allow him to better address the homeland security needs of rural Alabama and his district.
