Opelika Police say Officer shoots armed Teen during traffic Stop

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) _ A 17-year-old boy who was shot in the buttocks by an Opelika police officer is being treated at a hospital.

The boy's name has been withheld because he is a minor.

Investigators say the officers had tried to stop the teenager for a traffic violation. Authorities say the teen emerged from his car with a shotgun, leaving the officer no choice but to draw his weapon.

The teen was shot in the buttocks and did not sustain any life threatening injuries.
