OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) _ A 17-year-old boy who was shot in the buttocks by an Opelika police officer is being treated at a hospital.
The boy's name has been withheld because he is a minor.
Investigators say the officers had tried to stop the teenager for a traffic violation. Authorities say the teen emerged from his car with a shotgun, leaving the officer no choice but to draw his weapon.
The teen was shot in the buttocks and did not sustain any life threatening injuries.
Lee County Sheriff's Department is assisting in the investigation. The officer was placed on leave.
