Editorial: Montgomery residents need to vote

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

On Tuesday, August 25th, a Municipal Election is scheduled to elect the Mayor of the city of Montgomery and nine City Council Members. By now all registered voters in the city of Montgomery should have received your 2015 Voter Guide for the forthcoming Municipal Election Cycle.

Included in your Voter Guide is vital information such as Important Election Dates; for those who qualify, where to vote by absentee ballot; and your new Voter Information Card which contains your City voting precinct.

It is important to note that your City Precinct number is now represented by an alpha numeric number. And all polling locations are now assigned to their respective City Council Districts.

Also worthy to note is that there are 14 new voting precincts for this election cycle. For many electors, you will vote at the same precinct that you have previously voted in. For others -- you will be voting at a different precinct for the Municipal Election cycle only.

Please take time to review your Voter Guide and your Voter Information Card to guarantee that you report to the correct polling location on Election Day.

If you have not received your 2015 Voter Guide, please contact the Montgomery County Board of Registrars at (334) 832-1215. Upon request, one will be mailed to you promptly!

And remember: EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE AND KEEP OUR CITY STRONG!

The subject of legalizing marijuana is more openly discussed these days, but I sense I will be long gone before our state ever passes such legislation.

I can’t begin to thank all the people in Montgomery who went out of their way to make an outsider feel at home. In only a year and a half we have made lifelong friends, friends who we would count on with our lives and our children’s lives. But it is the South, and that is what you do.
