MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - On Tuesday, Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard requested an extension in order to file a motion to challenge the constitutionality of part of the Alabama Ethics Law.
Hubbard requested that the deadline to submit the challenge be extended to Sept. 1.
On Wednesday, state prosecutors objected to Hubbard's request, and said that his lawyers have had plenty of time to file a constitutional challenge since they indicated they would not long after his arrest.
Prosecutors say they are willing to compromise and have allowed Hubbard to submit his challenge by July 31.
This would mean that the challenge could be heard during the Aug. 17 hearing that is already scheduled.
