Editorial: Back to school

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

It’s the middle of August and that means the end of summer for kids and time to go back to school. My drive in to work this week was a quick reminder as well, that everyone is getting back into the  “school routine”. I am pretty sure I am going to have to change my routine or get used to a much longer drive.

Even though it has been many years since I started a new school year, I still get a little spark from the energy that comes from the kids I see on their way to school. The excitement of a new year, a fresh start, everything feels new and clean.

I realize, this excitement is fleeting and that in a few weeks many of these excited kids will settle in to the reality that they will doing this for another nine months until the next summer break.

I’m going to ride the energy for a couple of weeks and encourage you to do the same.

As you are sitting in your car thinking “traffic wasn’t this bad at the start of school last year,” take a minute and remember your past and the fun you had as you started a new school year.

It might make you smile, and what’s wrong with that.
