HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

An announced protest scheduled for Saturday outside the Huntsville Islamic Center had put both police departments and Redstone Arsenal officials on guard for potential conflicts.

However, Saturday came and went. So did everyone else.

Though a series of anti-Islamic demonstrations were reported to have been planned in cities across the country Saturday, no one showed up to the one that had been purportedly announced for Huntsville.

Had demonstrators actually showed outside the Huntsville Islamic Center, the group's president said he would have wanted a frank and open discussion about the resistance.

Dr. Nauman Qureshi, president of the Islamic Center, said he doesn't understand the protest against all Muslims, since his center has been a pillar of the community for over 30 years.

Dr. Quershi ended up being the only person present at the Islamic Center on Saturday.
