Editorial: Help the flood victims

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

As we know here in Central Alabama disaster can strike most anytime. Right now our friends in South Carolina are suffering greatly with devastating historic flooding. More than 20 inches of rain have fallen over a large part of the state in less than two weeks, killing 19 people and causing at least a billion dollars in damage.

It is heart-breaking watching the videos – thousands are trying to rebuild their lives.

Sitting here, we all feel deeply for the victims of the storms. This is why we are partnering with the Red Cross for a disaster relief drive benefiting flood victims. The Red Cross has nearly 800 workers on the ground providing shelter, food, water, relief supplies and meeting one-on-one with people to help them plan their recovery.

You can help flood victims by donating during our drive, but the need goes well beyond our effort this week - if you are not able to call, you can contribute anytime by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Every little bit helps and I know our generosity will make a difference, providing hope for those so terribly impacted by the floods.
