PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP)_A would-be robber was shot dead Tuesday afternoon by a Phenix City merchant.
Police Captain Jim Hart said officers found 27-year-old Kintae Omar James, also of Phenix City, lying in the street about a block away from the store.
Russell County Coroner Linda Key said James was shot in the chest and died shortly after being taken to a Columbus, Georgia, hospital.
Police said the shooting happened about 4 p.m. at Don's Foods on Fourth Avenue.
Hart said no charges were filed against 73-year-old Don Ford, the store owner, but he said the case remains under investigation.
