Montgomery honors Paris with Court Square Fountain

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The City of Montgomery lit the Court Square Fountain blue, white, and red, the colors of the French national flag, as a tribute to the victims and the survivors of the terror attacks in Paris.

The city lit the Commerce Street Tunnel to the riverfront blue, white, red as a tribute as well.

Mayor Todd Strange said in a statement, "Our hearts and prayers are focused on the people of France in the aftermath of these cowardly acts of terrorism."

The French national flag is known as the Tricolour. The red represents Saint Denis and the blue represents Saint Martin, both patron saints of France. The white has long been consider the national color of France well before the French Revolution when the current flag was adopted.

Several other monuments around the world are also lit red, white, and blue in solidarity to the victims of the French terrorist attacks including the One World Trade Center in New York, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and Christ the Redeemer in Brazil.
