MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

For years Vintage Year was a staple in Cloverdale in Montgomery. After being closed for years, the original restaurant will once again open its doors.

The restaurant first opened in 1984. It hosted famous actors and politicians and was a favorite spot for many Montgomerians. One of it's most famous customers was John F Kennedy Jr. He ate dinner there in 1995 with about a dozen political figures. Kennedy was in town doing interviews for his political magazine.

"It's incredible. It's kinda turned around and everything is coming back together and it's just beautiful," said Gary Garner.

Garner is the executive chef and co-owner of Vintage Year. He got his start with the restaurant back in the early 90s, working under the original owners for 12 years.

After going through different hands and shutting down, years later Garner and the other co-owners decided it was time to bring the restaurant back to its roots.

"The people still know it was here and still love it and you still hear even before this place thought about being remodeled, you still hear people talk about Vintage Year," said general manager Chase Brown.

Not only is the name the same but even some of the original recipes will find their way onto the menu.

The look, however, has completely changed. Owners say they gutted the place, creating a whole new atmosphere from the dining area, the bathrooms, the bar and the kitchen.

"We wanted to make it a little bit higher end but with a good neighborhood feel," Brown said. "Our menu ranges from a burger all the way to a very nice chateaubriand cut."

Managers believe the eatery opening up benefits all of Montgomery, as it's another piece of the puzzle in continued efforts to revitalize the area.

"The revitalization of downtown and this area. It's really coming together," Brown said.

The doors won't be open for a few more weeks. Workers are still putting on the finishing touches and making sure everything is ready for the grand opening, set for Jan. 5. The restaurant will operate Tuesday through Saturday for dinner, opening at 4:30 p.m.
