1 killed, 1 injured in New Year's Eve shootings in Selma

SELMA, AL (WSFA) - One person was killed and another was injured in shootings on New Year's Eve in Selma.

According to Lt. Sam Miller, detectives responded to the first shooting scene in the 400 block of Martin Luther King Street and found a man who had been shot multiple times. The victim, 38-year-old, Antoine Stallworth, was taken to a Montgomery hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, detectives discovered two people were firing shots at each other in the GWC Homes area, and Stallworth was caught in the crossfire.

Detectives then responded to another report of a shooting victim who arrived at the emergency room at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Mary Whatley had been shot multiple times and died from her injuries at the hospital.

Detectives discovered a man shot Whatley while she was standing in her front yard in the 1600 block of Maple Street. The suspect walked near the residence and fired multiple shots, according to police.

The cases are under investigation.
