Editorial: Ready or not here comes 2016

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

My business always puts me in the same position.

December is a very busy month for the media business, and there is little time to look forward to the new year and no time to reflect on the year that is about to end.

2015 was a fantastic year for us. A great new opportunity at a great station in a city that has welcomed us at every turn. We could not be happier with our move.

2015 was also full of changes for WSFA; some wanted and some not. In the end WSFA is as strong a news organization as it has ever been and 2016 looks very bright.

As I took a breath and tried to look forward, I quickly realized that the legislature is back in session in less than a month. The budget issues that dominated the headlines in 2015 are still here for 2016.

The question of Lottery or no Lottery will be a hot topic as well.

WSFA dedicates an enormous amount of resources to cover the legislature and to try and keep you informed. My hope is that if you see something on our air or read something on one of our digital platforms that moves you or stirs thoughts that you will take the time to email or call your legislator and voice those thoughts.

If nothing else comment on the story. I promise more than one representative is paying attention.

I hope your new year is off to a great start and I hope no matter how good or bad 2015 was for you that 2016 is just a little bit better.

The subject of legalizing marijuana is more openly discussed these days, but I sense I will be long gone before our state ever passes such legislation.

I can’t begin to thank all the people in Montgomery who went out of their way to make an outsider feel at home. In only a year and a half we have made lifelong friends, friends who we would count on with our lives and our children’s lives. But it is the South, and that is what you do.
