Vatican City-AP -- Pope John Paul traveled to predominantly Catholic countries like the Philippines, and to countries where there are few Catholics, like Japan.
The Vatican says his visits to more than 120 countries took him enough miles to go from the Earth to the moon -- three times.
He said after visiting tiny Guam, "To me, a small place is just as important as any big diocese."
The pontiff made several tours of the United States. He also traveled to Africa and Asia. He was the first pope to visit Cuba. His dream to visit the Holy Land came true early in the year 2000, when he traveled through Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories.
The hallmark of his visits was an outdoor mass. No other pope celebrated so many Masses for so many people.
