UAB Police Chief Resigns

U-A-B Police Chief Harry Marzette will no longer head the campus police department.

He announced his resignation Sunday one week after he was placed on paid leave amid questions surrounding a traffic stop in Mountain Brook on suspicion of drunken driving. A U-A-B spokesman would not say whether Marzette's resignation was connected to the April first incident on U-S Highway 280. U-A-B Police Captain Jimmy Nordan, the second in command, has assumed Marzette's duties. Marzette, who is 63, joined U-A-B's police force in 1985.
