Summary of each charge against Mike Hubbard

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard was indicted in October 2014 on 23 felony ethics violations. 

If convicted, Hubbard faces a maximum penalty of two to 20 years in prison and fines up to $30,000 for each count.

This is a summary of the charges in the indictment:

COUNT 1

Used his position as chairman of the Alabama Republican Party to obtain money or business from the Alabama Republican Party for Craftmaster Printers.

COUNT 2

Used his position as chairman of the Alabama Republican Party to obtain money or business from the Alabama Republican Party for Auburn Network.

COUNT 3

Used his position as chairman of the Alabama Republican Party to obtain money from the Alabama Republican Party through Majority Strategies for Craftmaster Printers.

COUNT 4

Used his official position as chairman of the Alabama Republican Party to obtain money from the Alabama Republican Party through The Howe Group/Tim Howe/SRM Media and Advertising for Auburn Network.

COUNT 5

As a member of the Alabama House of Representatives voted for Senate Bill 143 during the 2013 legislative session and knew he had a conflict of interest.

COUNT 6

As a member of the Alabama House of Representatives solicited or received money from American Pharmacy Cooperative (APCI) from a lobbyist, subordinate of a lobbyist or principal (APCI).

COUNT 7

Used his position as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives to obtain money from the Southeast Alabama Gas District (SEAGD) for Auburn Network.

COUNT 8

As a member of the Alabama House of Representatives received compensation from the Southeast Alabama Gas District to represent SEAGD before the Alabama Department of Commerce.

COUNT 9

As a member of the Alabama House of Representatives received compensation from Southeast Alabama Gas District to represent SEAGD before the Governor.

COUNT 10

As a member of the Alabama House of Representatives solicited or received money from Edgenuity and/or E2020 from Edgenuity (lobbyist, subordinate of a lobbyist or principal).

COUNT 11

Used his position as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives to obtain money from Robert Abrams (CV Holdings) for Auburn Network.

COUNT 12

As a member of the Alabama House of Representatives received compensation from Robert Abrams (CV Holdings) to represent Robert Abrams before the Alabama Department of Commerce.

COUNT 13

As a member of the Alabama House of Representatives received compensation from Robert Abrams (CV Holdings) to represent Robert Abrams before the governor.

COUNT 14

As a member of the Alabama House of Representatives used public property (a state computer, a state email account, or human labor and/or the time of himself and another state employee) for the benefit of Robert Abrams for Hubbard’s (Auburn Network’s) financial interest.

COUNT 15

As a member of the Alabama House of Representatives solicited an investment in Craftmaster Printers from Dax Swatek (lobbyist, subordinate of a lobbyist or principal).

COUNT 16

Solicited a $150,000 investment in Craftmaster Printers from Will Brooke (Board Member of the Business Council of Alabama/lobbyist, subordinate of a lobbyist, or principal).

COUNT 17

Solicited a $150,000 investment in Craftmaster Printers from James Holbrook (Sterne Agee Group) (lobbyist, subordinate of a lobbyist or principal).

COUNT 18

Solicited a $150,000 investment in Craftmaster Printers from Jimmy Rane (President of Great Southern Wood) (lobbyist, subordinate of a lobbyist or principal).

COUNT 19

Solicited a $150,000 investment in Craftmaster Printers from Robert Burton (President of Hoar Construction) (lobbyist, subordinate of a lobbyist or principal).

COUNT 20

Solicited assistance with obtaining new clients for Auburn Network from Bob Riley (lobbyist, subordinate or a lobbyist or principal).

COUNT 21

Solicited consulting assistance and support for Auburn Network from Minda Riley Campbell (lobbyist, subordinate of a lobbyist or principal).

COUNT 22

Solicited assistance with obtaining new clients for Auburn Network from Billy Canary (President and CEO of the Business Council of Alabama) (lobbyist, subordinate of a lobbyist or principal).

COUNT 23

Solicited assistance with obtaining new clients for Auburn Network and/or financial advice regarding Craftmaster Printers from Will Brooke (Board member of the Business Council of Alabama) (lobbyist, subordinate of a lobbyist or principal).
