GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - A search is resuming Monday for a truck that drove off a bridge and plunged into a river in Alabama. Gadsden Fire Chief Steve Carroll tells news outlets that witnesses reported the truck plowed through a guardrail on the Meighan Bridge on Sunday afternoon and went into the Coosa River.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Yellowing court records from the arrests of Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr. and others at the dawn of the modern civil rights era are being preserved and digitized after being discovered in a courthouse box. Archivists at Alabama State University are cataloguing and flattening dozens of documents found at the Montgomery County Courthouse. Circuit Clerk Tiffany McCord hopes electronic versions will be available for viewing as early as late June.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Three books have been announced as finalists for the 2018 Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction, and the public can vote for the winner online. The prize is presented by the University of Alabama School of Law and the ABA Journal. It was started eight years ago to commemorate the 50th anniversary of "To Kill a Mockingbird," and to honor author Harper Lee. Al.com reports the finalists are "Exposed" by Lisa Scottoline, "Proof" by C.E. Tobisman and "Testimony" by Scott Turow.
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - A U.S. Navy combat ship named after New Hampshire's largest city will be commissioned soon. The commissioning ceremony for the USS Manchester is scheduled for May 26 at the New Hampshire State Pier in Portsmouth. The last vessel commissioned in Portsmouth was the USS New Hampshire submarine in 2008.
